About the Author
Bernie Wieser is a writer, IT professional, management consultant and entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience working for various companies in Alberta. His friends have called him a "demotivational IT speaker" because of his humorous portrayals of insanity in IT. Bernie has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in classical history and computer science. "Call me a scientist or call me a historian but stop calling me for help with your computer," Bernie has been heard saying. Bernie's wife tells him he cannot call himself a scientist because he has an arts degree.
About the Story
Memoirs of a Self-Loathing IT Professional follows the trials and tribulations of Mark August, a bright young man and computer whiz kid with a knack for missing the obvious. Mark struggles making the transition from free thinking hacker to corporate drone as he moves into the workforce and is confronted by incompetence, micro-managers, bureaucracy, politics, and control. Can Mark keep his passion for technology and sense of self worth or will he be consumed by the insanity that is corporate IT?
Memoirs of a Self-Loathing IT Professional is a collection of short stories based on my (Bernie's) experiences over 25 years. It is self-medicating therapy for draining the poisons that accumulated in my psyche. Laugh at me or with me - commiserate or condemn the episodic short story (that is far from dead as an art form.)
